Welding mild steel
« on: January 21, 2011, 12:37:41 PM »
Apparently EN1A isnt too good for welding..So I'm told..( well Google says so, so it must be true.. :coffee: )

Does anyone have experience of fabricating and welding with bms material?

I'm constructing a small bench folder  :dremel: and need to make the hinge pivots, thinking of using EN1A for the pivot pins that are to be welded in place...

The welding chap next door had no problem sticking 2 bits of EN1A (EN1A-Pb no less) back together after I'd accidentally separated them; so it will definitely weld. I suspect that for your purposes, it'll be no problem.
Cheers!

en1a should weld easily, en1aPb is supposedly more difficult ( not tried) becaise of the lead content.

John.

you should have no problem, weld with 6010 to tack and or place root then fillet and cap with 7018. or if its just a little weld just use the 7018 wire. if migging co2 with regular steel wire and or flucore will work. or if tigging regular steel with argon gas.            Anthony.
