Man dies at 102 owns same car 82 years

Ned Ludd:
Hi Guys,

Super glue and self tapping screws were used in abundance.

There used to be a saying in the garage trade that if you only had a dozen self-tappers left over after taking out a Jaguar dash board you were a careful and conscientious mechanic.
I suppose a good RR "technician" would only be left with a couple.

PS I don't think "they" were talking about Mr. Swift when they talk about 'buying the best means you only have to buy once', not even the most optimistic car maker could imagine keeping a car that long.
Having said that, about twenty years ago I stopped for a broken down Bentley, (she forgot to turn on the petrol) it seems her father bought the car in the early thirties, when it was three yeas old. Just a shame it is too late for me to own a car for 82 years. :(

I would like to know the total amount insurance paid for 82 years then compare that to the original cost of the motorcar.

I know one thing though; Ford and GM were not his biggest fans.

Anthony.

At breakfast Saturday morning I discovered that R-R had an assembly plant in Springfield Mass. Established in 1921 and closed about 10 years later. Heard two reasons for the closure.

1. US buyers preferred English craftsmanship. (Not sure why, US craftsmanship in the 20's was second to none!)
2. R-R would not build them with left side steering.

I suppose you can make your own choice.

You can Google "Rolls-Royce in Springfield, MA" and find several articles.

Ned Ludd:
Hi Joe,
I seem to recall that in Japan they prefer their Limos to have left hand drive even though they drive on the correct side of the road. I believe the reasoning is that they like their chauffeurs to be on the kerb side, so as to let them out more quickly. Could it be that they got the idea from American RR owners, did US owners like their drivers near the kerb? Let us not forget that RR cars were never intended for owner drivers. Well not in the old world at least.

I opted to not bring this up but since you have I would like to point out that RIGHT is a synonym of CORRECT.
