C4 Electric problem
« on: December 19, 2010, 09:51:08 AM »
I am a newbie to this site, and have an electrical problem with my C4, which I have had for about 18 months. The lathe was working fine while I was turning down a piece of stainless ready to thead, I switched off the lathe to change the gears, and then switched it back on, the green light came on, and I can hear the fan, but no display or power. The fuse is fine. My question is before I start to get into the electrics, possible fault, are there any other fuses that I should check, and would the very cold weather we are having in Norfolk (-8C) have had anything to do with the problem?
Regards

The cold could have something to do with it, try a fan heater on it for a while.

If these overload for any reason you have to turn them off completely, wait a short while and switch back on.

There is a fuse on the XMT1000 spindle driver board.

I have a C4 and as far as I know there is only one fuse but I have been known to be wrong
It is not something daft like the emergency stop switch is it as this will let the green light come on but nothing else if it is depressed.

A wiring diagram which may help

Many thanks for all the replies, it gives me a starting point.
I did leave it for 2 days, without success.
My next check will be the stop button. Then some heat, and finally the fuse on the spindle board.
Thanks for the wiring diagram, I have this already.
I have posted Seigind, to see if they have a more detailed wiring diagram.
Will let you know how I get on.
Regards to all,

Update to all.
The problem WAS the off switch, although the button was springing back, the switch inside was not releasing, and after pressing a dozen times or so there was an audible click and the switch released. All sorted.
I now need to find out why it sticks on.
On my own, if the weather had not been so cold, I would have had the logic boards out, and would still be scratching my head, but the cold kept me indoors, and thats when I decided to seek help online, this site is a great find.

My thanks to all.
Regards
John
