Micro Mill X0, ArcEuroTrade - PROBLEM!
« on: November 23, 2010, 02:29:31 PM »
I was just drilling a 1.5mm hole into a piece of aluminium, no more than 3mm in depth. Taking it very steadily. The drill suddenly made a strange noise and then cut off. The light was still on, but the spindle had stopped moving. Tried starting it up again, another strange noise and now nothing.

I'm very worried! Should I open it up to see what has happened? Any ideas?

I've had it since June, so I think it's still under warranty...

The belt is intact, doesn't seem to be a problem (and didn't sound like it was related to the belt). The motor doesn't make a noise when I turn it on anymore, the light on the switch comes on, but no sound from the motor.....

No, Do not open it up if its still under warranty, contact Arc Eurotrade and explain to them what has happened........

Having been employed in the service trade, if goods are found to have been 'interfered with' then any warranty is void.....

Thanks John, that is what I was thinking, thanks for comfirming that. I opened up the top part to see if the belt had slipped or something, but I can't see that voiding the warranty as it's a basic part of changing the RPM?

This is quite untimely, amongst several projects at the moment that all require some use of the mill. I've honestly hardly used it, so it's frustrating for it to just let me down right now :/

Just to update: Had a call the very next morning from AET and it was sent off shortly after. All back within 5 days of the 'problem', repaired, fully working. They even gave me back the cost of posage with credit on my account (which I might have been slightly annoyed by, but I was about to order something anyway). All in all, top class customer service, extremely happy :-)

Oh yes... forgot that part! It was the motor in the end. They didn't seem to know why/how it had gone when I spoke to them, they'd sent it to a technician to investigate. They have very few problems with them apparently...
