Tiny BA fasteners/studding
« on: November 23, 2010, 12:00:40 PM »
Hi chaps,

So do any of you know if you can still source the really tiny BA fasteners/studding with decent lengths like 20-25mm?

Am in need of tiny threaded bars to replace rivetted pins on watch bracelets!  :(

EKP make the fixings that most of the other ME suppliers sell.

What size BA are you calling tiny?

Kool!

Tiny so probaby 14 or 16 BA.

That's the painful part I need to remove the peened pin to the far left will then be able to have the parts coated separately.  Hopefully can use a tiny BA fastener to reassemble the 1000 Euro bracelet can't afford any F ups with this job.

If you are after studding, the smaller you go, the more expensive it gets, if available at all. It is much cheaper to make yourself.

For small ones, I first get the thread started and thru the die, then I hold the first bit of thread produced in a pin chuck, or pin vice, held in the chuck of a battery drill, and wind it thru, drill running in reverse from the back of the die. You can easily make a 6" length in whatever material you require in less than a couple of minutes.

Thanks Bogs,

Yep I've been contemplating making my own just wanted to look at all options.

Sizes found hopefully I can find a suitable nut type that doesn't look to chunky.

Bry,

Why not just buy something like 1/32" copper snap head rivets, or brass escutcheon nails (in fact I still think I have some of them knocking about from my model boat days), and fit them like shown in the C-o-C below. You could even get them plated to match. Once assembled with loctite, they should never move.

Thanks for the rivet idea Bogs I hadn't thought about that must be my young age (34)  :D

Probably have them DLC'D if it's possible.

I wasn't sure what you needed/wanted to do exactly, but you may be able to replace the pin with parts intended for the job.
I'd browse around here a bit before I made any final decisions.
