This is a clever bit of expanding surface design

That is cool. reminds me of a camera iris.
--- Quote from: RichardShute on November 14, 2010, 10:16:11 AM ---..." I can't believe that is strictly true. If the rim is circular at the smaller size, the radius of curvature at the outer edge cannot still be circular when moved outwards. I think the infil panels are 'appropriately' curved to match up, but the result at the larger size cannot be precisely a circle - not in engineering terms anyway.

If you notice, when its the small table there is a table edge that comes away as you first start opening it out. I recon the sections will be curved to the larger radius and the edge that falls away and returns will will turn the bloated hexagon looking edge into a circle.

This is what happens when you leave some people unsupervised, there is no telling what kind of trouble they will get into :D Seriously, that is amazing !!!

I've seen one in action, and it was really something. Here's the manufacturer's website http://www.dbfletcher.com/capstan-table/
This is the sentence that puts me out of the running :( :
"Each table is truly a one off item, a museum piece of the future, the price for each is dependent on the materials and cost of the construction, which is generally in the tens-of-thousands of pounds"
