Machining A Stone Column

Hi All

Thought a few might be interested in watching a 5 axis at work with a Stone Column.

That's quite some machine! And it looked to me like the stone was mounted on a mandrel which was eventually visible, so the final result was three (?) intertwined helices with a hole down the middle. Wow!

That's pretty neat, Don.  Made an interesting thing, too.
Do you know how long something like this takes to turn out?  In stone, I mean.

I have no idea how long it would take. I just bumped into that video as I was chasing down something else and thought others might be interested in it as well. It just amazes me what they can do with the cutters, materials and 4 and 5 axis machines.

Gotcha.  I thought maybe you did this kind of work.
It's not exactly a short job when this kind of thing is made in something like aluminum.
Bet it took days on this lump of stone.

The 'throwup cam' work is special.  Even in stills!  ; )
