Hi Chris I took both the slides apart they should have a thrust bearing in them it is a plastic spacer with ball bearings set in . The washers these run on wear and give the gritty feel you describe . I simply reversed the washers on mine but they are no silky smooth by any means John |

Sorry to be a pain but where abouts exactly should these thrust bearings be? I can`t get down to the lathe right this second, but from memory: I can remove the handle, then the graduated dial splits in two with a recess in one side that allows the two to fit together, then your into the casting of the main axis/scross slide itself - of course with the leadscrew threading through the middle of all this. I`m just trying to understand where this thrust bearing sits. I take it there must be a recess for it? Chris |
