I was going to chime in with some German, but it seems a few other have beaten me to it. To be understood in German is easy, to master it is impossible. :) I spent 6 months in Germany and was almost fluent in speech by the time I was done. Now since I've had no reason to use it I've forgotten almost everything I learned. I do love how the language works though - don't make new words, just put other words together to make a new meaning ... then put those words together to make yet another meaning. Before you know it, you have the entire alphabet twice over in a single word. I could never master the gender of words though, as we don't have that concept in english and it seems like it's just memorization. Der, Die, Das, it's all the same to me. :) Don't even get me started on the number of ways there are to say "you". Anyway, welcome. Enjoy your stay. -Sparky |
