David Curtis called yesterday afternoon..... The carriage is a bit stiff...... Can I check over his Ebay acquisition?
Course I can!!!
After a thin coat of looking at...... Apparently v-nice. V-well lubed. V-well adjusted.......
Took off the leadscrew bearing & slid everything off the end of the bed.

Had a good look for bumps, bangs & burrs........ Found half a thou wear in middle of bed.......
Nowt wrong there, then!
Then concentrated on this end.......

All adjusted & lubed perfectly......
Nowt wrong there, either!
Carriage & crosslide were nicely adjusted and lubed, so slipped back on.....
The only problem we found...... The pinion engaged too deeply into the rack when bolting the apron into place.

A strip of 5thou`shim packed it out a little. (No pic, sorry)..... Still slightly stiff, but will run in ok, I reckon......

Nipped up the headstock bearings a little. Chucked an old 1/2" bolt & made some swarf......

It cuts beautifully! Even makes blue swarf, without much protest!

Had a minor struggle getting the enormous drill chuck out of the tailstock quill. But all`s well that ends well.......

All in all a very nice machine, previously owned by a caring operator.......
Later......
PM from David.
The tailstock`s
well out of centre!
DOH!
However did I forget to check
that? (Note the long test bar, awaiting use in pic 2)......

BUT, if that`s the
only problem remaining....... That`s no problem!
