Fly cutter tools.
«

I've just acquired a set of three fly cutters together with tool steel blanks to fit. It's over 30 years since I used a fly cutter and at my age I've forgotten the shape and angles that these tool tips have to be ground too.
Does anyone know of a site or diagrams showing how such fly cutting tools should be ground. I only intend these to be used on brass or aluminium. I usually use a tipped face milling cutter on steel.
Thanks guys.

I've had quite some good success with the shape described by Bogs
here

Hi Harry,
There are quite a few topics covered on this forum and many can be found using the search facilities.
Just put "fly cutter" in the search box and you should find quite a few threads.
This one should get you on your way

Wow Fellas,
Two minutes and two replies. Thanks very much. I'll look into both suggestions asap.

+1 for Bogs' cutter, it gave me the best finish I have gotten with a flycutter.
