The toolpost on my mini lathe has always been located too high & wide for any sort of rigidity.

It`s ok for the little fiddly diddly brass parts I normally make, but is useless when faced with a piece of steel....

Winding the compound back still has the tool outside the cross slide footprint.

It then gets in the way of the tailstock nut.

Very limited on diameter too.

But, when it grabbed & bent my new parting tool.

Something had to be done!

Remove compound & fit steel block, to give largest available footprint on crosslide.

(Yes, it`s not quite square & in line..... This is a posed pic. )

New (cheap) toolpost brings the tool into the crosslide envelope.

And improves the capacity.

Just need to chop away what`s in the way....... When the weather lets me get back out there.

Lots of work/ tweaking to do. But I think this is the way to go.....
