A nice little primer on metal spinning on a wood lathe.

I've got to get my tool rest and tools made... I need to try the spinning out.

Glad other people want to do it too... This means that I can learn from others trials too  ;D

Interesting to see that nail in the centre of the form. never seen that before... could stop a super fast spinning circular razor blade from launching across the shop!!

Center pins are not uncommon for exactly that reason.  The downside is that they do leave a small imperfection that will need to be repaired on the finished shape.  Even with the center pin it is probably still not a good idea to stand in line with the spinning disc.  Also it is a good idea to recheck the tailstock center for clamping pressure after the first pass or two DAMHIKT.  If the tailstock should loosen up the metal can chatter and destroy itself by tearing.

On the other hand the center mark on the windball halves will be desirable as it will mark the concentric center of the hemisphere.

Yes I was thinking that the one part would need a hole so it could be a hole from the start, it would also make it easier to hold when soldering if the hole is there.

Some projects still to move and then I will have space to start the afore mentioned tooling  ;D
