i will be following this thread cause i would like to build one for my south bend and i have never understood just how a taper attachment works.

Nice one Rob.

I like the idea of stress relieving. That's a good idea, especially after welding. Would have never thought of that.

The part does look like a casting though.

This going to be an interesting thread, one I'm going to watch closely. I want to eventually build one for a lathe I'm modifing.

Found out about that a long time ago. It's nice to have somebody come up and renew some old procedures. It also helps the new guy that wonders why his BMS warped after he milled it.

Rob 2 qeustions.

1 Is it not worth incorporating a small feedscrew into the design ( on the end that has the scale) if you use a feedscrew with very fine thread it would allow you to make measured adjustments???????

2  Any way my little ARC welder can weld ALi????

As Rob has not been back yet to answer I've been thinking about how I might have made the lines.

Maybe mount the piece to the RT and scribe the lines on the mill ...  :scratch:

I am real envious of your heat treating and welding facilities, it really helps when you are doing larger jobs such as this. I really do miss my mini gas welding set, but space dictated years ago that it couldn't be used any more.

Your experience is really showing thru.
