The Best of Model Engineer Vol 1
John Rudd:
I was away at Manchester last weekend to see Cliff and the Shads in concert...went to Smiths in the Arndale Centre and picked op a copy of the above mag...
Wow...money well spent or what!!!???
I've been mulling over building a steam engine for some time...( buy a Stuart kit? ummm...dunno)
All I can say is there's food for thought...for under a fiver...
If you aint got a copy then get one...(unless it aint your bag...)

I bought a copy a couple of weeks ago, John. Like you, it made me a bit enthusiastic. I rather fancy the vertical engine. Even if it didn't work (with my skills, I don't reckon the chances are very high) it would look good on the mantlepiece.

As Tony would say...'They're grrrreat'
I've always been a fan of the Shads and although I play, I'll never be as good as Hank..
Well worth the money!! :)

Hi Guys
Sorry I haven't put in an appearance of late. To be honest I tend to prefer showing various projects on my own website - I never was one for public speaking !
I did notice however that there has been some interest in the contents of ‘The Best of Model Engineer’ volume one and in particular Stan Bray's vertical engine. Coincidentally I am covering the build of this engine on my website which has revealed a number of surprising discrepancies in the published plans. I think it only fair to warn those considering the construction of this engine of the pitfalls that await the unwary. You can see progress to date at http://start-model-engineering.co.uk/
