I was lucky; my (late) Chris was an engineer's daughter, who learned to read from engineering textbooks so she knew that swarf was a fact of life, and wasn't bothered when I used my first (baby) lathe on the kitchen table.
Liz (the cleaner) isn't as indulgent, and wasn't too impressed

by my suggestion of a magnet on a stick. So I secretly stuck a few
neobbdy neobdymum rare earth magnets on the underside of the vacuum cleaner. That seems to have shut her up, tho' I have to be very careful about non-ferrous stuff.
