Hmm..good guess Dave..you could be right...it's a position device for something and that just maybe it.

It is a holding clamp. In particular it is a no weld knife vise. You put the blade inside so that it is held by rubber gasket material and you can swivel it any way you want to work on the handle. I haven't mounted it yet, so no photo of it in action. I need to make a lever to hold it down on the workbench.

Thanks for the kind words. I am also working on a small forge for heat treating and perhaps for welding.
I used two firebricks and made a steel box to hold them. i am also working on a small, 3/8th" venturi pipe burner to make it work.
I don't have all of the bugs out of it yet.
