Fixing the Beaver Mill Quill Manual Feed Arm

I wouldn't have bothered posting this simple fix except for the way I fitted some new parts.

The manual arm for the quill feed had a sheared pin that I'd mentioned previously in another post.



I did have a go at removing the broken pin but it was stuck fast and made from a really hard material. So no drilling it out.

Instead I drilled a new hole right through and tapped it 6mm.



For the new pin I'm going to try two 6mm grub screws and see how they get on. One will be the pin and the other will be right behind it acting as a locking device to prevent machine vibrations from working the main pin/screw loose.



Fitted in this fashion, if this pin should shear all that would be required is to first remove the locking grub screw and then there will be access for an allen key to drive the main pin right out.

Should be no mess, no fuss and certainly no drilling and tapping in the future.

Fingers crossed that it'll do the job.... :)

You never know if another member has or is going to have the same problem as yourself.

Your little fix might save him hours of heartache trying to figure out how he is going to get his machine working again.

Nice... but doesn't that put the new pin 180* out? Or did you flip the round piece?

I`ve had a thought.........  :scratch:

Couldn`t you have drilled from `tother side, until drill met end of hard pin.

Swap to a flat bottom drill, to take out drill point angle.

Drift out pin.

Replace with new.  :thumbup:

Isn`t hindsight wonderful!
