Here's a site I found that might be of interest for the designer that wants to build right from scratch. Check out the Mechanical Fab section. This is were all the metal work is. The rest is pretty interesting too, espiecialy if your into electronics.

Those with serious shop space envy do not look at his shop. Even I was envious.

I went through it kind of fast. Didn't read everything and it took me a couple of hours.

I guess you can do all of that if you don't sleep or have a wife.
