The gearbox is almost certainly fixable. I don't know what the current spares situation is with Boxford. I've had my lathe since 2005 and then parts were all stocked. It may be worth trying to negotiate a discount with the seller to allow for some remedial work. I've seen parts being offered on eBay from stripped down machines. The lathe has features not seen on a lot of lathes like a graduated handwheel on the tailstock with 0.02mm divisions and a dial on the carriage with 1mm divisions which can easily be interpolated to 0.1mm. I'll keep my eyes open for a 280 for you. ( The 330 has exactly the same footprint and has the advantage of the thicker bottom dovetail section to the topside. Cheers. Phil. |

The seller would not negotiate "one cent" which I found strange. Furthermore when I offered a cash deposit which was also refused, saying " cash in full and take it away now ". In view of this, something did not "smell correct" so I walked away. Would be interested if the right machine comes along. Thank you for your help and advice, much appreciated. |
