OSOEZI merely describes the product "Oh So Easy"
russ57:
1 looks a bit like hooks for ladies to hang a handbag on a table, but not quite.
Is it springy, and what thickness would fit?

I like seadog's rabbet plane suggestion. Looks to have maybe been hand forged -- is the groove at the thick end possibly where the metal was folded up and incompletely forge welded?
I can't tell from the photo, but at the thin end, if it's slightly mushroomed from hammering, that is also pretty characteristic of a wooden rabbet plane where the iron was unfortunately tapped with a hammer instead of the ends of the plane with a wooden mallet. But pretty common.
Well that's all guesswork on my part.

Thanks everyone.
Andrew, are you speaking from knowledge or are you speculating like the rest of us? I understand the OSOEZI bit but to me that says it has to be easier than the alternative and it doesn't seem much easier than a paperclip or pin.
Russ, it'll only clip a thickness of a couple of mm. It's not very springy, it appears to be made out of brass. One of them is cracked (visible in the first picture I posted). Here's another picture.
The steel object shows no sign of sharpening although there is a bit of mushrooming on the thin end. That might be from abuse. There is another mark on the longest side near the thin end which suggests it was one of a set of at least three. The groove Steve referred to looks deliberate to me. I wonder if it's an oil groove or for a thread to run in? Here's another picture.

I've seen very similar clipping sheet music to a music stand.
(I've equipped the wife with some rare earth magnets for the same purpose when playing outdoors or on a band stand)
