As to why all the extensions are needed IDK

Thanks John, yes I've seen similar tools, but much tougher than this.
I guess it will have to remain a mystery.

Third pic, one in the bottom looks to me somewhat like marking knife for woodworking...there are many designs. Some are to hold like a pen, some like a brush and some just liiks decorative, buta are actually hard to use.

It's a plow plane iron. Some types not shown do not have the hook at the top.
