Steampunk Brushless Motor Build
David Cambridge:
PhilF - it's an Andonstar adsm302. I think there are a couple of variants, one of which has a longer working distance. It's worth getting this one as is it gives plenty of room for the hot air gun.

Thanks David.

Sub'd.
The way you lay down a worm of solder paste across all the pads of the SMD µC and then solder it with the hot air gun, with the solder paste wicking back to the pads is cool. Don't you sometimes get shorts like that?

In my limited experience, the solder will bead up nicely onto SMD parts, it's only if you've gone a bit heavy handed on the solder paste that you get shorts. In fact, if you look at 9:26 on the video, you'll see there is short between the 4th/5th pins from the right, which David fixes with a bit more of a blast from the heat gun. Having seen one in action now, I'm thinking that's going to be one of my next electronics purchases... that, or a better toaster oven to reflow in!
