This Copy of Windows is Not Genuine

(1/2) > >>

awemawson:
My office PC has been running Win7 for several years. Installed from a genuine Win7 installation CD. It is genuine and registered to me.

Today it is coming up saying it's not genuine. I will re-boot it when I can get to it but at the moment I'm accessing remotely (which I do every day - not a new facility)

. . .but what the heck !

John Rudd:
Sounds like something is corrupt...( bit like the world....)

Mebbe try a re-install, after backing up...

awemawson:
I am highly suspicious as Microsoft is ceasing Win7 support. I recently changed from ' automatically load updates' to 'let me choose which to load' just in case they spiked it at the last moment, but I see that Microsoft Security Essentials isn't being controlled by that setting and has loaded a host of updates in the last couple of days.

 . . . mmm . . . conspiracy  theories

Speaking of Dartmouth BASIC... I watched a rather good little documentary on it the other day on YouTube:

Well worth a watch if you're interested in the early days of computing, and why Dartmouth in particular became such a hub of early computing excellence.

Andrew - I don't think it's a general Win7 thing, my laptop is still running Win7 & so far (touch wood) hasn't done the "not genuine" thing...
