Silly cheap magnifying lence for lathe
« on: October 02, 2019, 04:06:22 PM »
Normal desk magnifying lamps are expensive, bulky and cumbersome.

Then I saw 6€ sewing led light magnifying lence in LIDL....It's only 2x, but light weight and about 120 mm dia.

I also had next to useless magnetic base.

It only needed one bushing to join magnetic base to disassembled light arm and then it is nearly ideal: No rim, no tube and no need to be overly carefull with it.

I was at the makerspace last month while someone was taking apart a printer / photocopier and saw some rectangle magnifier lenses that were about 3/8 / 1/2 wide x 5 / 6” long and thought it wouldn’t take much to situate them over a crosslide dial much like the height gauges have.

Hope you like it. I think I bought that one too some years back. I ditched the "third hand" because it is pretty awfull, will not hold much without shose crocodile clips slipping.....on the other hand serrations are that sharp that break insulation on wires. But the magnifier is not too bad hand held and it is pretty much used in my garage.
