How is it that the capacitors in these old PSU's can last 60 years but modern caps die off after a few years especially if they are not used?

Like your RA17 BTW.  Had them in the RAF  I had a HRO at one time. Maybe I should have kept it. Worked fine when I sold it for £5.   :scratch:

Sadly I sold my HRO complete with all coil packs (including bandspread) when I moved here 12 years ago, and my AR88 and several other receivers and LOADs of test equipment including two Avo CT160 valve testers  :bang:

You had all the coilpacks ? I had 7 I think but not sure.
How many SHOULD there have been ?
