Hello All
« on: June 02, 2009, 03:07:38 PM »
Hello All.

Yet another new joiner from the UK. Been lurking for a while having been pointed to this fine establishment by Circlip.

A total newbie who is STILL waiting for dratted chester to delivered his dratted lathe. Mostly interested in Model boats and the engineering that goes with that, but looking to break into static engines when the wretched lathe arrived.

Currently playing with Flash steam boilers and generally annoying poor defensless pieces of metal while building up my nerve to make a start on Hand Maiden - essentially a Stuart 10 H:

http://www.stuartmodels.com/inprod_det.cfm/section/machined/mod_id/28

but made only hand tools. I might cheat and use a pillar drill, but everything is by hand. Circlip convinced me this would be a marvelous idea. And it will be. But I'm expecting the part where I try to get a fly wheel totally round with only a hand file will not be the most fun in the world.....

I'm that annoying kid who asks stupid questions about odd subjects. The ideas bothering all 8 of my nuerons at the moment are Flash steam, pulse jets, building the Mastiff boxer engine ( a while off yet ) and pretty much anything to do with making big fast model boats - and all the engineering that goes with that. Gyro controlled trim tabs, active areodynamics, wave piecing trimarine designs etc etc etc.

I'll apologies in advance for any future idiocy!

Steve

Steve,

Welcome to the collective  :borg:

Boats and flashsteam eh? Well I might be picking your brain if your willing to stay around long enough.

I'm interested in steam boats, not my first hobby, but if it's steam powered that's a different story.

Sounds like you've already got  :proj: so on with a few projects when you get that lathe and we need plenty of pictures to proof you did it.

Bernd
