Friction Turning a Smoke Box Door

Hi I thought this would be of interest to you chaps. Friction Turning a Smoke Box door for a 5" Gauge Loco. Basically what I've done is covered the face plate with masking tape and trapped the door up against the face plate using a running centre the friction gives enough drive to enable you to machine across the face.

Yes John:- what you're doing is giving it a better coefficient of friction compared to steel on steel, I know some people who have used double sided sticky tape or even supper glue but that leaves you with the problem of getting the job off the plate I've found that masking tape is more than adequate, the running centre is keeping it in place it can't fly off the worse that can happen is that it starts to slip if you try taking too large a cut.
