Slitting Saw Arbor Material |

DeanDK:
Hello, I'm purchasing some slitting saw arbors, and planning to make some arbors to suit. I have a watchmakers lathe, so it will be WW thread collet. Is mild steel okay? I was thinking of making it from Silver Steel. What are your thoughts on an ideal material for this tool? Cheers, Dean  |

If you're looking for more toughness than mild steel can offer, I'd suggest 4140HT. Unless you plan on hardening, which is not recommended for a tool arbour, there isn't much point to using silver (tool) steel. That said, mild steel would likely serve you just fine without any trouble. |
