Small M2 Running Centre. |

Stilldrillin:
After admiring Stew`s handiwork, today I made a small running centre for my 7x20 Mini Lathe..... Whatever I`ve missed here, please refer to Stew`s posting........ The centre & MT2 blank to suit my smaller tailstock. Blank mounted in MT3 sleeve in headstock. Remembering to insert a piece of 10mm screw into the blank`s thread, for stripdown. Roughing began....... At .010" per pass..... ::) A little hard at the taper end. Found a nice new "10mm" reamer. A little swarfe clearing problem. (No problem). This is not a good time to realise you do not own a drift....... :bang: I then realised the reamer is a few microns undersize, so I polished the centre shank to a lovely "pop" fit. This caused an airlock with the loctite...... Had to file a flat to allow the air out! Just needs the taper shortening for the little tailstock, after the loctite has cured. The centre is 23mm o/d, the tailstock ram is 22mm........ Now that`s close enough for me! Thanks Stew! Yer a gem...... :headbang: David D |

Nicely done David It makes a lovely neat centre, I see you ran up against some tuff stuff as well when turning blank down, its not to bad but it does make the old machine groan. Cheers Stew |

Don't forget to buy some of these. Not worth messing about for a quid. http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/New-Products/Chucks-Backplates JS. |

Those screw in tangs are great John. I bought a handful of them when I modded my tailstock. They are worth it at double the price. John |
