Hmmm giving this a little more thought.  A model helicopter gimbal with three quality servos for gimbal motion and a fourth for rotation.  The motion can be orchestrated by an Arduino type device.

The disapearing guns were used at Fort Rod Hill in Victoria BC sadly they didn't save any but you can see the implacements while there.

I'm getting the feeling from some of the comments that I haven't explained the operation well enough.  I'd have loved to do up an animation, but from the few times I've done this with SolidWorks I know its a time consuming pain in the rear.
