Hello all, just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm living in Alberta, Canada and have been lurking on your forum for a little while, drooling over the work that you guys are capable of. Now that I'm middle aged, I've finally found out what I should've done 20 years ago - take up machining / tool and die making etc. I've purchased a Seig SC4 and have been learning how to use it. I am new to the hobby, and so far I've just been practicing some basic operations - turning, facing and an attempt at threading...along with grinding HSS tool bits to the proper shapes. I've succeeded in making a paperweight but my wife really doesn't understand my great achievement (I thought you guys might). I think it needs to have a bearing pressed into the other end though, to be a truly useless paperweight.....today's project! Off the top of my head, I have a couple things I'd like to try like making a tailstock die holder, turning an MT2 taper, building the Clickspring fire piston - and attempting a steady-rest similar to the one made by PowderKeg Thanks for allowing me to lurk, and learn from you guys. Welcome, You will fit right in with a lot of us paperweight makers. At least that is one use of the bit that just been made. |

Welcome aboard Rollie  The truth is most of us specialise in making swarf in one form or another, and just occasionally something useful emerges from the chips  |
