Digital caliper mounted on lathe

PekkaNF:
I had another identical lying around. Now I have a better caliper, I took it appart to se the innards.

Now: How to extend the zebra connection to LCD?

It starts to look a little complicated....

I have been trying to find a commercial alternative, but magnetic tape models with displays seem to be over 200 EUR/GBP. Bit steep for a cheap lathe.

I have used similar digi callipers on my machine... not cosmetically perfect, but  does the job...

Ran across an old thread...
It's pretty easy to peel the circuit board off of the aluminum spar.  I did up a cross slide read out by gluing the board to the base and sculpting the reader onto the moving bits.  It there's interest I can dig out pictures.  Please be warned, cross slides were machined :-0

Yesh. Tape is easy to remove from the caliper. Problem is how to move display (LCD) 15 cm away from the read head? yhere are some commercial units with "remote" display, byt they are pretty thick = Warning - your cross slide is about to have some serious cavities!
