John Rudd:
Cheers Pete, I'm always on the lookout for tool suppliers, sadly they are not abounding in Oz, unlike the States... Harbor Freight is good for bargains and they have outlets in most major cities....One could really spend a small fortune..... |
RobWilson:
Have a good one John  Are you meeting up with any forum lads ? Rob PS dont bother looking at that bridge of theirs ,its not as good looking as the Tyne bridge :) |
SwarfnStuff:
Hey Rob, Leave our coat hanger alone. :palm: Still, I live in Victoria so slagging off the NSW lot is something of a hobby at times. The bridge does make for a great scaffold for the New Years Eve fireworks though. OH, and it moves umpteen thousand cars a day too I guess. John B |

That was an interesting link Rob, I found out stuff there too. At the time of building I think it was, and may still be the longest arch of its type but could be well wrong. Typical of the Australian disrespect for pomp and ceremony some wag on horseback rode up and slashed the ribbon before the official party had a chance. This is ignored in the official news reel but in the curator's note part way down it gets a mention. "Curator’s notes by Poppy De Souza The notable absence in this newsreel is the ‘De Groot incident’ where an officer of the New Guard, Captain Francis De Groot, on horseback, slashed the ribbon with his sword – beating the Premier to the task. De Groot was quickly escorted away by police and the ribbon was retied for the Premier’s official cutting of the ribbon. " http://aso.gov.au/titles/newsreels/opening-sydney-harbour-bridge/clip2/ If you look at the first few seconds of the footage you can see the knot where the ribbon was re-tied about centre screen. The news reel is interesting just to hear the voice of the commentator and the pride in it. John B |
