Carbon Fiber Scuttle Project |

My current workshop project is laying up a scuttle mould with carbon fiber, I made the mould a few months ago and thought I would share the process as I hope to pull an infusion in a few weeks or sooner. Here is a picture of the old scuttle on my composite table before I made the split mould. After cleaning prepping adding flanges, with the gel coat applied. Glass fiber all done and split mould bolted and ready for layup. Current state, laying up the carbon fiber with a spread tow racing stripe like the design on the rest of the carbon fiber body parts. I plan on following the spread tow racing stripe theme down the middle of the car on the carbon parts. Here is a picture of the bonnet scoop I recently made before it got clear coated to give you an idea of the design and why I'm laying up a slither of spread tow down the middle. Next step is to start laying up the carbon twill following the same weave direction as the bonnet scoop above. |

Hi Dave! One of my favorites things is carbon fiber. Have a roll of it in the shop along with vacuum bagging supplies. I still have not been able to create a decent mold however. I would love to see\read more about your process. Eric |
