:thumbup: Looking good chipenter. I agree the ground finish does look rather coarse to be original. You could always true the cone area up by taking a light cut on the taper with a indexable boring bar fitted with a cubic boron nitride (CBN) insert tip. They work a treat for turning hardened steel and would ensure concentricity to your headstock. Link to CBN inserts I have used for such purposes in the past: http://www.shop-apt.co.uk/cbn-turning-inserts.html EDIT TO ADD: I emphasise only a light cut,a couple of thou may be all you need to get concentricity. Put a clock on the taper zero run out , I have a toolpost grinder and a small diamond stone , but will try triple 0 emery first . |

It would be interesting to see what sort of run out reading you get with a shorter test piece and clocking closer to the chuck.....OZ. |

Les than half a thow , I cant find any info on this chuck as it's no longer made , the angles vary from 14 , 14.5 to 15 degrees for the outher collet sizes . --- End quote --- |
