I can see clearly now the 3D printings done.

Joules:
Emergency repair on broken glasses.  The covers on the arms had split (during ultrasonic cleaning) and gone manky.  Time to fabricate some new covers.

Model the wire arms then model the new covers.  Remove them and split them, make a couple of copies ready for the 3D printer.

30 mins later the covers are cleaned up and the edges welded onto the arms.  I now need to seal and finish them ready for use.   Total time for the job about 2hrs, it's better than watching the telly

Anything is better than watching the telly these days  :(

Nice job Joules, you have a nice useful skill there that I envy

Cheers Andrew, I just hope it inspires others to mod everyday items, as the more you do, the easier it gets with practice.  I really like these old glasses as they are Memoflex frames, the really bendy ones.  I can't seem to find these frames anymore so the longer I can make them last.

Glasses this morning after the sanding sealer has set and a quick polish with some fine Scotchbrite.  Now wearing them, and thinking next time I would print the covers at 0.05mm layers, less cleanup required.

Fergus OMore:
Laughingly, a quid at Poundland!  I'm running on sets from On-Spec for about £25 a pair. Paid a helluva lot more privately for the cataract jobs though.

As one says, some people see things differently  :wack:

But he did't have to go out, got more experience in the design work, use what he already had in the shop and I will bet he had some fun with it. After all, this is just a hobby for most of us.
