Melting crankshafts

(1/2) > >>

ironman:
Hi everyone

I was running low on scrap cast iron so I dismantled some lawnmower engines. The crankshafts were melted for the castings I needed, have a look at the video to see how it turned out.

Ironman, your videos are always informative and interesting, and this one is no exception. Thank you for sharing.

Nice. It really helps to have someone post videos of how to do thing properly. You really have perfect process control. Really impressed that there is no porosity at all.

This was green sand wasn't it? Do you measure sand moisture level, or have the experience to just do it be feel? Roughly what oil flow rate were you running?

Regards,
Mark

I've done a lot of aluminium casting but from watching this video I can see that I have a lot to learn. Very informative, thanks.

That slo-mo of the liquid metal splattering on the floor should be a clear warning to those who you see pouring while wearing shorts and sandals. Don't do it.

Dave.
