I decided to press the bearing back in, and make a little bracket to retain it. I'd hoped to be able to make a circular one, but the way the chuck backplate is welded to the shaft precluded this. In the end I made a little clip that bolts to the chassis upright - it should be serviceable in this application, but not if it was used (say) on a milling machine.

So putting it all back together it works ok - the only evidence of damage is slight scarring to the large drive pulley where it's been bruised on the extreme edge, but not where the belt runs.  :thumbup:

OK - so what does it let you do - engrave around the periphery of circular objects - I've even seen a Youtube video of a drinking glass being  engraved held in the chuck  :scratch:

Happy to have it, as it 'completes the set' as it were, but it probably won't see much use I suspect
