Laser Cutting SS

(1/1)

Will_D:
Anyone any first hand experience of what the state of the art laser cutters do on thin (0.7 - 1.0mm ) stainless sheet?

I would hope for a very clean edge but what about colouration of the cut edges?

Is it a one step process from raw to finished item?

MTIA

John Stevenson:
Yes, they make a marvellous job at these thickness's.
They cut SS with nitrogen so stop surface cracks and so there is no discolouration at all, the cut edge is silver shiny.

Will_D:
Thanks John for the reply!

In response its "Oh Bugger, This project is go and so its going to cost me money now"

redshift:
Here is a picture of some 1mm stainless which  we cut at work, it was cut on a 4kw Trumpf 3030.
If you need more info / help just ask
Regards,
Dave
