Better late than never - Modup Trophy
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:23:21 AM »
I realize I am severely late at this. I have no real excuse except I started a new job about a year ago and never seem to have any time. I unfortunately did not take any build pictures while doing this.

I know the winner has not been on since he won, but I do have his address and will send this out next week. Hopefully it will inspire him to come back to MadModder.

So here I present the bolt engine trophy!
Science is fun.

We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.

You need to give up this work thing Eric

It gets in the way of life and is much over rated in my experience

Great Eric. But RussellT has been here all along -- last posted Jan 2. I'm sure he'll appreciate it!

In fact, I'm thinking it's about time for another Mod-up. Anybody want to throw out ideas for one? Something fun cobbed up out of everyday stuff would be a good subject......
I love it when a Plan B comes together!

Well now I feel really stupid. I would have sworn when I last looked a few months back, he hadn't been on in a while.

Hi Eric

The trophy looks great.  I'm looking forward to seeing it in the solid.

As Steve says, reports of my absence have been greatly exaggerated (to misquote Mark Twain).

What's the next contest going to be?  How about a drill sharpening jig that works better than those cheapo cast ones - I've been thinking about that recently.

Thanks again.

Russell

I know the idea of a Mad Project build compeion is a great idea but what about:

"Thread of the Year"

There are some excellent threads running through 2015 that would be worthy for nomination.

After all the sheer  amount of work that goes into documenting a thread is comparable to the project itself.

It would be great to reward all that hard work!

It is a sheer delight to read, and to look and learn from them

I think I have the very idea for the next challenge which should be possible and inexpensive for most.
I propose wire frame models but no inanimate objects, so there will be allowed a motor with a set of gears and of course a battery pack but other than that everything else about the model must be wire which will be brazed, soldered, spot welded, tied to form the model and it must move in some way. For example if you build a model car it must move along the ground.
Thoughts?
Turns out this life c**p is just one big distraction from death but a good one. For the love of god dont give yourself time to think.

The trophy has crossed the Atlantic and is now proudly displayed next to the engine.  Thank you to Eric and all involved in the competition.

Here's a picture of it next to the engine - and one showing the engine sitting on top - such a good fit I wondered if Eric had been round to measure the engine.

Wonderful!

I know it isn't perfect (I stink with wood), but I hope it is enjoyed.

Thank you Andrew.

Eric, it's perfect.  I'm very proud of it (OK that may be a bit sad - but true).  Thank you again.
