I use a samsung tablet that I carry around with me for my daily trips to denny's for coffee (free wifi there) mind you I have had the internet at home since 92 or so. I enjoy the fact that so much info and video's like Doubleboost's are available and can keep a eye on the stock's I have but I don't type on it too often. As far as being tracked, they always have been able to track us and have (like the smart television that hears every word said ) I havn't heard anything about that since it was reported. It seems everyone is so eager to jump on google, facebook or any other sites where is is done openly and they tell you what they are tracking and why, I would be more worried about the ones that don't tell you that may not be regulated!

I have owned a Nexus 7 tablet Android " Google product" for a year now and absolutely love it. the User Interface with the computer is strikingly different to the regular PC set up, once mastered is quicker than any pc.
The nomenclature is different but the tablet does exactly the same as a pc plus more.
I am a Mechanical project manager and spend 50% of my time on the shop floor problem solving, I have a need to have my electronic library in my pocket for instant reference and tablets fill this need perfectly.
In my tablet i have a mirrored copy of my pc files all of which can be accessed, edited and added to, it reads PDF, Excell, Word, One Note I even have a CAD program on it.
I have a cloud account with Google to which i use for sharing and storage while not at my desk, this week I fly to London so while i am there I have my complete work hard-drive already there.
For my personal use, it has enhanced my time and knowledge in my work shop, I have my sketches of projects right there in the shop for reference, i take notes and pictures on projects, I have tap, drill, dovetail calculator and speed charts on it, I listen to music, it even acts a screen display for the DRO on my mill when i finally hook it up, and another handy feature is my wife emails me when its time for dinner.
APPS are the way to go, they are quick and efficient and do just one thing and do it well, plus they are cheep.
The cloud feature is not fully recognized yet by people of our level and is underused, but people are wary of it for privacy issues wrongly so in my opinion, I look at it this way, if your that stupid to put any information on a cloud system " or the Internet in general" that you do not want people to see you deserve to be burned.
Google is sucking up all internet information and storing it for profit, yet its a wonderful resource we all use, yet the concept of recording information on mass, storing it and using it for profit goes back 900 years "Google" the Manga Carta, them cats back then wanted there tax revenue brother.
To sum up, Study your tablet, get used to using the stylus for the interface fingers don't work, Get "Google Keep", its a note taking app, simple but very powerful, but most of all enjoy your technology and make it serve you to make you happy.
All the best
Anthony.

Anthony,
Nice piece.
Those are the reasons that I was expecting my Tab3 to be more useful than it is turning out to be.
But I think that the problems I am having with it, or should I say why I see it so negatively, is that it is really not necessary to my life style.
I would find myself making uses for it that I don't actually need.
Guess I am an awkward old coot. But over the last few years I find myself trying to simplify life rather than complicate it. Mind you, I'm 71 soon so I'm all for an easier life.
They are a marvelous bit of kit. No doubt about it. But I can work much better with my laptop and radio mouse than I ever could with a touch screen.
And not only will it not fit in my pocket, but sadly, carrying anything of this nature in view greatly increases you chances of getting robbed.
I will keep tinkering with it. But I do wish she had bought me a pair of slippers instead.
Dave.

I'm with Pekka.
I don't even own a cellphone any more.
Don't need it now, and also I'll just wait a few years. We won't need them at all when Google really comes up to speed and there are mikes and cameras on every person and every square inch of the planet with drones overhead. You'll just speak out the name of the person you want to talk to, wait to get through the commercial messages, give some juicy piece of personal history for payment, and get connected. Woohoo!
