Using a Bandsaw

(1/1)

Will_D:
So I need to cut some 50mm square 304 SS on a typical 4 1/2" bandsaw  :bugeye:

This is the smaller SIP/Warco/You know who / band saw. Basically they are brill machines but any hints / tips / tricks?

I know I know I should have got the supplier to cut to length but hey ho!

BTW: 300 mm of 304, 50mm square: €27 plus vat!

John Rudd:
A bimetallic blade, lots of coolant.....

sparky961:
In addition to coolant and slowest speed, keep it feeding - no light cuts. Stainless work hardens quickly, so try to stay under the hard stuff.  A coarser blade than you typically see on a small saw would help.

awemawson:
Minimum of two teeth, preferably three, in the cut at any one time is a rule to follow for tooth pitch on saws. If you go too coarse the sheet 'falls into' a tooth gullet, if you go too fine there is insufficient room for the swarf in the gullets for the stuff to clear.
