Very nice lookkng drawer! I like it a lot when materilas look themselves (I hate much modern flloring materilas tiles made to look wood, plastic made to look tiles....). I also enjoy seeng good honest joinery. I don't care if joinery is machine or hand made, both needs skill and there is a learning curve. Thanks for showing them. You don't happen to have any pictures of joinery when you were making them? Pekka |

Beautiful work, Ian!  I agree with Pekka....... I fully appreciate the skills needed for quality wooden work. But. I never was any good at it myself! David D |

I admit the dovetails were cut with a router and not by hand. I can just about do it the traditional way, but with that many drawers to make I was bound to make a mistake somewhere. I have only got a couple of pictures of progress, but if I can work out how to squeeze a milling machine into the garage I will be making another one. I have also put up a picture of an awl I have made. The brass ferrule was actually turned on the wood lathe by hand, and was the start of me wanting to get a metal working lathe. The wood is cocobolo. It has no finish on it, and was simply buffed to that shine. A beautiful tropical hardwood, but horrendously expensive and it does come with a health warning. |

They look very nice. My suggestion (from experience) with fitting a milling machine into the garage is to buy one. You'll soon be so fed up with it getting in the way that you'll make a space for it. Russell |

The only place I could put a milling machine now is on my workbench. Then I would not be able to make the cabinet for it (or anything else). At least thinking about where to put it will give me chance to save up some money. |
