It's great to follow along with each of your improvements, David!

I also like your first picture -- naturally, I think it would make a fine avatar..... :)

Thanks Steve!

Hmmm..... Naturally, yes! I've been thinking of updating, recently.  :smart:

Slow, steady progress........

Cleaned up the casting, in the single pedestal area.

Marked out for crankshaft centre line, and two base pads.......

Milled .03" deep pockets........

Two steel pads. Fitting snugly, in the pockets, also doweled........

Glued with sleevelock. Milled to match each other........

Two 25mm square columns. Held with m6 c/sunk screws and dowels.

Drilled.........

Reamed, 13mm........

Angled the column sides.......

Radiused.........

How it all fits together........

A quick spruce up, of the flywheels. Increased the diameter of the bosses........

Thanks for looking in!

David, I somehow missed your latest developments and most recent posts on changes to the flywheel end.

Anyway, yes she's definitely gonna be a prettier looking engine with the double flywheels.

 Nice work ......OZ.

Frazer, OZ.

Much appreciated. Thanks fellas!

I've started work on the crank discs.

Two off, 3" square x 10mm blanks. And aching arms.......

Topped, to 68mm o/d........

Skimmed. Finished at 3/8" thick........

Sleevelocked, sleeves. To increased shaft location length......

Drilled/ reamed 6mm, for silver steel shaft. Sleeves topped to 8mm dia. No discernible wobble, when spun on shaft.......

Time to make 'em look like crank discs!

If I mill away to centre line, as usual, (l/h disc). I guess the assembly would be "over balanced".

The r/h disk seems more, functional.

The present c/i piston and rod assembly, weighs 63gms.

Is there a quick n dirty, simple formula. Which I could understand. To calculate how much weight to remove from big end area?

Tom.
Thanks very much! I can work with that. (And the digital kitchen scales).......

I've been steadily reducing the flywheel's 1" wide rims. Not wanting to overdo it.......

Now, down to 5/8" wide.......

I think they look about right. Anyone care to comment?

I can still take more off.........

David, massive improvement, they look tremendous.

Proportionally to the rest of the engine they look grand, but also I think if they're thinned down any further you may start to loose the depth proportion of the radius on the cast section of the rim webs.

It's your decision but I think she'll look mighty when the crank is in and the flywheel centres are painted.

Looking forward to the next installation........OZ.

Thanks for your kind comments!

"Miliputtyed", where necessary, and sanded/ carved back........

A fuff of paint.......

And, a tidy.......

I think the rim, still needs a bit off the width. And the sidewall depth reducing a little.

Jami, Zadig, Frazer.

Thanks Fellas!

I decided, it was time to drill n tap the flywheels, for m3 grubscrews........

Trying the silver steel shaft, afterwards, it stuck, solid

The only way to part, the parts, was to drill through........

Then drill 8mm dia, and sleeve back, with mild steel insert.

This is not the first time, this has happened to me. I hope it is the last.

I can't get over, how tightly the alloy gripped the silver steel. Despite the fact, they were first fitted, some 3 weeks ago. And, have been taken apart/ assembled, more times than a Lego set!

Is there some unwritten rule. "No alloy sleeve, onto silver steel shafts"?

I agree with Steve.

It's the same with anything electronic, it will work fine out of the box all day but as soon as it's  back together it will fail.

So true, so blummin' true!  :palm:

Frankly, I blame Mr, Wilson's, Newcastle gremlins. They must be hiding inside the castings.

The last time it happened, was with this pair........

Dunno about pollution, Frazer.
I reckon it was coffee grounds............

Finished the re sleeving. All went well........

I decided to house the bearings, inside the flywheels.

Opened out with end mills, in 2mm steps.......

Final pass, with 13mm slot drill, 5.5mm deep.........

Should be a nice shove in fit, probably..........

Sandwiched the cam, between two 5mm thick cast iron discs. Drilled & tapped m3. All held with sleevelock........

Slips in here, nicely. Plugged the grub screw hole, with it's annoying click........

A bit of clearance, here........

And there........

Screwed it all together. First flick, away it went!  :bugeye:

And the video. Cos, I know someone will ask.........

It's now in lots of pieces, for final finishing and assembly.........

Thanks for looking in!
