Scott Vacuum Engine......

Stilldrillin:
I've had very little workshop time, these past weeks. But, have made some good, solid progress.

I took the top off the original burner......

And, made a twin wick cap........

The engine then proved to be a willing, steady runner!

The shim valve. When releasing it's pressure, blew onto the flames. Bending them outward.

So, I filed the top edge of the "window", to direct the pressure more upwards.

That's a bit better.......

It's really satisfying, when you begin to understand these engines.

The obligatory video.........

Next job. We need an "eyebrow", to replace the hacksaw blade.

Also, I've noticed the mild steel shutter, is now scuffing the s/s port area. Will swap material, to brass shim........

Thanks for looking in!

Final assembly........

I've had very little shop time, recently. Old bones/ cold workshop........  :(

Managed to bend up a s/steel shroud, for the burner flame area.

Then grooved, to give a positive location.......

Set it in place........

And, silver soldered........

Seems to work well.......

Nice, steady running..........

Maybe, a little choked? By the recessed shroud.......

Opened it up, a little.........

That's better!

Realised the valve assembly had settled a little. The shutter was only just covering the ports. Maybe, allowing pressure to exit horizontally, onto the flames.

Tweaked, to give 2mm overlap........

All that was left to do, was to experiment with the wick height, and positioning.

Sorry for the amateur dramatics. But, I was, just a little pleased with the result.........

Still only, loosely assembled, for test purposes. Using undersize c/i piston.

Lots to do yet. But VERY encouraging.

Thanks for looking in!
