Title: Vac rescue
Post by: russ57 on April 28, 2018, 09:04:38 AM
Hardly in Andrew's league, but I am resurrecting a shop vac.
Main issue is missing castors, plus a small amount of panel beating..
Two missing castors, with support broken out.
A rummage in the wood heap found some dowel miraculously the right diameter.
Drill a hole, insert salvaged castor.
Perhaps I drilled undersized, but a pain to insert.

I ended up buying a replacement castor for one on my shop vacs - the original had worn out !

What I hadn't realised was that the spigot that presses into the hole, has a groove and spring clip - so the spigot is a sliding fit and a clip a tight press fit that should expand into a corresponding groove in the hole

Unfortunately I didn't salvage the clip from whatever I got the castor from.
I'll have to look out for that bit next time...

Laest Kärcher shop vack I bought had allt that stuff made from plastic. The recess that castor umh. castors within had a slight bulge on the bottom and castor wheel spigot had groove in it. I boserved the parts, because it has now castors, but I might take the castors out to reduce the height and then it would fit under work bench.

Maybe mached location groove on the recesess and spigt would work with nylon (POM if you want to fancy) would work if the castor is not captive.
